How does Pottery Painting work?
Are the pottery paints you use safe?
Yes, all our pottery paints are non-toxic, lead-free, and food-safe.
Is my pottery microwave, oven and dishwasher safe?
No, it isn't. It is food safe...but please don't put it in microwaves or ovens, and please hand wash your pottery.
I dropped my piece of pottery and it broke...can I pick up another one free of charge?
Sorry, but Speckles+Splatter is not responsible for pottery after it leaves the studio. Bisque is breakable, so please handle it with care!
How long does it take to receive my pottery once I'm finished painting it?
We guarantee to have it back in two weeks..but often times it is sooner!
How long do I have to pick up my piece of pottery?
Once your pottery is finished we will notify you via text or email. We will hold it for 30 days from our first attempt to contact you. After 30 days we will either donate or discard any pottery that has not been picked up.
What if I don't finish my project in one session?
In order to accommodate all our guests and process your artwork safely, we are not able to store unfinished projects at the studio. If you're working on a piece of pottery and are unable to finish it in one session, we will carefully pack it up for you to take home. You can bring it back with you on your next visit to finish. We will charge an $5 studio fee for each additional session. Please remember that you will need to start a project at least one hour prior to closing.
Does pottery ever break or crack during the firing process?
Occasionally, a piece will crack or break during the firing process. In the event that this happens to your piece, we will notify you. We will replace it and will supply you with the paint and brushes to finish your new piece, but we are unable to refund your money.
What happens if I do not use 3 coats of glaze for my pottery painting?
Without 3 coats of the "foundations" glaze, your piece will not have a solid color and could be streaky.
Can I purchase pottery from Speckles+Splatter for a Paint-Your-Own-Pottery party or event I am hosting?
Absolutely! We can even custom order items for you if you give us at least 3 weeks notice.
If I host a party using pottery from Speckles+Splatter, can my guests pick up at Speckles+Splatter?
Yes, we will notify you when the pottery is finished and you can contact your guests so they can pick up from the studio (you can also pick up the pieces and pass them out).
I ran out of the paint I received from Speckles+Splatter. Can I use the paint I have at home?
Not if you value your piece! Using any other type of paint will either cause the pottery to break in the kiln or the paint will melt all over the kiln and other pottery pieces. So, please only use the paint we provide.
Why can’t I use a paintbrush that I have at home?
If the paintbrush is brand new and has never been used then it is fine. If it has ever been used it could have leftover paint in the bristles or ferrule and could contaminate the paint/glaze that is used for pottery painting.
Can you fire pottery that I made or purchased elsewhere?
It is studio policy that we do not fire materials made or purchased elsewhere. Our kilns are programmed to fire the bisque and glazes we sell at our studio. If we don't know the specifics of how the materials are made and what they contain, they may damage other pieces in the kiln.
